IN THE NEWS...... Cult watch designer, Crispin Jones, has used Loughton-based female private detective, Gina Negus, as the muse for one of his latest creations which was recently featured as part of London Design Week.

Called The Watcher, it shows two tiny faces with moving eyes which look all around, constantly keeping vigil on the wrist of the wearer. Crispin, who started his company Mr Jones Watches two years ago, produced only 100 of the limited edition watches – along with 100 each of four other designs – all inspired by people with unusual roles in society. “Watches today are largely redundant due to the number of mobile phones and computers which keep impeccable time. This has given me the chance to design watches which are more playful and have alternative functions,” says Crispin.

Gina launched her female-led private detective agency last year with services ranging from surveillance, tracing missing persons, digital forensics, close protection, matrimonial/relationship and divorce inquiries, handwriting forensics and Workplace Watchdog™ which offers businesses the opportunity to set up an undercover expert witness. Crispin says: “With this design I was interested in playing with the notion that we watch the clock, and instead create a timepiece that watches you while you go about your day. We were very interested in Gina as someone who strives to become almost invisible – what would she look like we wondered and what kind of person would she be? We imagined that working in the surveillance business would make her quite a fierce character. We were very happy to find out how warm and personable she is, so she is a happy partner for The Watcher which is a very playful exploration of one person keeping tabs on another.”
