Sports fans are being urged to be aware of the risk of scams that could take advantage of people’s disappointment at missing out on Olympics tickets.

Some will be unable to secure tickets, even following the second wave of sales.

Trading standards officers fear that some fake websites will be set up promising to supply tickets.

Websites that take people’s money and disappear have been set up prior to other major events and festivals.

Robert and Sally Dowler craved justice for their “darling Milly”. But claiming it exacted a high personal price. Milly’s father and then her mother broke down in the dock as they gave evidence during Levi Bellfield’s trial.

Robert Dowler, now 59, was forced to admit he had been an early police suspect. He was stripped of his paternal dignity as details of his sexual proclivities were extracted.

The wail of Sally Dowler as she finished her evidence and collapsed into her husband’s arms, haunted a stunned court long after she was helped from the room.

Waiting outside for her turn as a witness, Milly’s sister, Gemma, 25, broke down on seeing her mother shaking and overwrought. Court officials and family liaison officers flustered round helplessly as she too convulsed in sobs.

“Harrowing” was how someone described the scene as a first-aider was summoned. No one disagreed. In the end Gemma was spared when lawyers consented to her statement being read to the court.

Investigators believe a teenager arrested at his family home in Essex may have been a “significant” figure in a computer hacking group alleged to have staged attacks against websites belonging to the US government, the electronics giant Sony, and an elite British crime unit.

Scotland Yard cybercrime detectives were questioning Ryan Cleary, 19, over the attacks carried out by the LulzSec group, which mostly targeted websites belonging to institutions and companies in the US

For the first time ever, Somali pirates have hijacked and taken hostage three children aged 12-16 along with their parents and two crew members in the Indian ocean. This comes only days after the killing of four Americans last week.

Three children have been taken hostage by Somali pirates, the first time youngsters have been caught up in the continuing run of high seas hijacks.

They were with four adults on a Danish yacht crossing the Indian Ocean.

Most hostages captured in the waters off East Africa are professional sailors, not families. Pirates are not known to have captured children before.
